To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wong Yuet-sang, widely regarded as a maestro of Cantonese music culture in Hong Kong, the Xiqu Centre and the Centre for Chinese Music Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong present a memorial concert showcasing a selection of Wong’s compositions performed by his students, and a series of talks on his work.
During his lifetime, Wong created over 200 songs and instrumental pieces for Cantonese opera. As an instructor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a great proponent of Cantonese opera, Wong also promoted the academic study of the art form and taught a number of students, many of whom are now artists in their own rights.
