Since its launch in 2016, M+ Rover: Travelling Creative Studio has featured an annual thematic exhibition on its tours to local schools and community spaces. This free programme provides a platform for students and cultural practitioners to engage in creative dialogue as they inspire and learn from one another. This year’s programme is designed for primary schools. M+ Rover 2021 is scheduled to visit various primary schools and community locations across Hong Kong from November 2020 to July 2021. In response to the health-protection measures for schools, M+ invited artist Wong Tin Yan to develop a set of artist-led activities as well as a series of online educational resources based on his newly commissioned work Yes but Why?.
M+ Rover seeks to take students into uncharted creative territory. Designed by artist Kacey Wong, M+ Rover is like an expedition to a distant planet that explores new possibilities. M+ commissions local cultural practitioners to participate in each edition of the programme, and this year M+ is collaborating with artist Wong Tin Yan. With interactive activities and guided tours of the exhibition specially designed for primary-school students, the programme encourages students and teachers to unleash their imaginations, explore the everyday in a new light, and discover fresh perspectives by learning together.
In the previous chapters, M+ collaborated with artist Tang Kwok Hin, photographer Siu Wai Hang, illustrator and comic writer Rainbow Leung, and artist Ng Ka Chun. Through role plays, photography, drawings, and the innovative use of everyday objects, the cultural practitioners engaged the public in a series of creative and learning activities. These past experiences have informed M+’s approach to shaping the latest edition of M+ Rover, making the project more accessible to younger students.

About M+ Learning and Interpretation:
M+ Learning and Interpretation is a vital link between the museum and our audiences. Since 2012, M+ has been delivering the museum learning experience to schools and communities by devising educational initiatives for teachers, students, families, the elderly, and people with specific needs. Our current programmes serve as testing grounds for the long-term programmes planned for the museum building. Find out more about previous programmes and learning materials here.
