Since Coco Chanel first collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballet Russe almost a century ago, ballet choreographers and fashion designers have been inspiring each other to greater artistic heights. The Hong Kong Ballet production Hong Kong Cool: Ballet x Fashion celebrates this legacy.

Co-presented by Freespace as part of HK Ballet in Residence 2020 programme, Hong Kong Cool: Ballet x Fashion features world premieres by intriguing dance makers including Hong Kong legends Helen Lai and Yuri Ng, as well as newly named Choreographer-in-Residence Ricky Hu Song-wei. Each choreographer collaborates with a different emerging local fashion designer in an explosive outpouring of contemporary and classic creativity. Other highlights of the programme are Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s award-winning work, Sombrerisimo, as well as the Asian premiere screening of an exciting new dance film directed and choreographed by renowned London-based choreographer, director and filmmaker Corey Baker. Shot on location around Hong Kong, the film also features Hong Kong Ballet artists.

In addition, Hong Kong Cool: Ballet x Fashion showcases six short works – collaborations between six Hong Kong-based choreographers and fashion designers – that will be performed in surprise locations around Freespace before and after the performances.
