“Dream to Republic” is the third instalment in the “Mao Zedong-Xuyun’s Dreams” Cantonese Opera series, this is also the 35th Cantonese Opera written by Master Li Kui-ming, an original creation for the 10th anniversary of “The New Wave Cantonese Opera”. “Mao Zedong-Xuyun’s Three dreams” and “Trump on Show” (Mao Zedong-Xuyun’s Three Dreams 2) attracted enthusiastic response from audiences, local and global newspapers, as well as from online medias, thus, it would be a very difficult task to make the third play be more glorious than the formers. “Dream to Republic” tells stories selected from the history of modern China over the past century, performed by Cantonese opera artists, it adapts historical materials, official and unofficial, and also creative, affectionate and sadness lingering stories of famous historical figures, both entertaining and informative. This opera has an all-star cast, with a collection of the outstanding opera forces, for instance, Long Koon-tin acts as Mao Zedong, Emperor Guangxu, Sun Yat-sen and Emperor Puyi, together with appearances of Empress Dowager Cixi, Zhou Enlai, Chiang Kai-shek and Yuan Shi-kai too, however, the major lead of the play is “Republic”. Half price for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and a companion, Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients and full-time students. Ticket holders must present proof of eligibility on admission.
