VR Dance Video – Afterimage for Tomorrow

A man wakes up in an unknown dimension of consciousness. What is it that he sees, hears and feels? Is it memory, virtual reality or terminal lucidity?

This November, as part of CCDC’s City Contemporary Dance Festival 2019 and a series of events marking the start of our new multi-year “CCDC in Residence” programme, we present the virtual reality dance film Afterimage for Tomorrow by Taiwanese filmmaker Singing Chen.

In a collaboration with choreographer Chou Shu-yi, director Singing Chen has created a futuristic meta-fiction film about the inexpressible vastness of human emotion in the moments of limbo before death. In groups of no more than four, audience enter a room, put on a VR headset and become part of the story. Part installation, part experimental VR dance experience, the work opens up a new perspective on dance and technology, and offers audiences a unique look at the possibilities of moving image dance works.

This event is part of a three-year CCDC in Residence programme at Freespace, and City Contemporary Dance Festival 2019.
