Chinese Culture Talk Series III
Seminar Hall, Xiqu Centre , 26.06.2019 to 31.07.2019
Today (31 July) Chinese Culture Talk Series III : Talk 2: The Aesthetics of Chinese Tea Culture (7:30pm - 9:00pm) will be cancelled because of adverse weather.
Throughout history, tea and incense have played an important part in traditional Chinese culture. Used in the home and in temples, for religious ceremonies and intellectual rituals, the processes of tea-drinking and incense-burning offer moments for reflection and inspiration.
This series of talks looks at the cultural and aesthetic significance of these products and processes. In the first, Professor Sidney Cheung Chin-hung explores the historic and contemporary uses of incense and its role in religious and social rituals, and in the second, Ip Wing-chi, Founder and Dean of Hong Kong Tea Academy, looks at the development, emergence and aesthetics of Chinese tea culture and its relationship with Japanese tea culture.
