Behind the Design of the Xiqu Centre
Hong Kong Polytechnic University , 18.10.2018
The Xiqu Centre is the first performing arts venue to be completed in West Kowloon. With a lantern-like design that integrates the core elements of traditional Chinese architecture, the venue includes the Grand Theatre, the Tea House Theatre, eight studios, a seminar hall and a large public atrium.
In this talk, Louis Yu, Executive Director of Performing Arts at West Kowloon, shares stories about the design of the building, its unusual use of space, the venue positioning and the Xiqu Centre’s relationship with local Cantonese opera communities.
