Woodland species comprise of a number of native plant species that are commonly found in the countryside. Some of the selected species display attractive colour in different seasons while some of them produces interesting fruits in summer. Woodland species are proposed to be planted at the Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District that intended to bring the Hong Kong countryside to the city center.

Waterfront species comprise a number of salt tolerant plant species are proposed for the waterfront zone, in particular, Cleistocalyx operculatus and Thespesia populnea, which can be commonly found in the waterfront or close to the water. They are proposed to be planted along the waterfront promenade.

Urban forest

Urban forest species are species proposed to be planted at built environment of the West Kowloon Cultural District. They are species of shade tolerant and having a beautiful consistent tree form and high branching habit, so that sufficient space could be allowed for pedestrian circulation and other activities under the tree crown.

Orchard species are fruit trees commonly found in Hong Kong or southeast Asia. These species are not included in the Foster’s Conceptual Plan but proposed to be plant at West Kowloon Cultural District’s open space for their special feature and/or ecological value, and in particular, for the trial and educational purpose of the Tree Nursery.
